We’re only a month into 2016 and Zayn Malik has already set claim to the entire year! But this “Zayn Reign” (as I like to call it) started long before the release of his debut single, “PillowTalk.” Nope, it all started on March 25, 2015, when Zayn quit the band One Direction in the middle of their world tour. Whoa, now! But before I get into all of Zayn’s many Bo$$ moves, I want to discuss his single.
A few days before the single premiered, I posted a YouTube video discussing what sound I thought Zayn was going with for his new single “PillowTalk and subsequent album, Mind of Mine. But, after finally hearing “PillowTalk,” I can say it surpassed my expectations! This song is just too good, omg. So good in fact, after just 12 hours of having the song on repeat, I concluded that Zayn would receive at least one Grammy nomination in 2017! I mean, if the rest of the records on Mind of Mine sound remotely like “PillowTalk” then Grammy nominations don’t see that far-fetched! Wouldn’t that just be the wildest thing? You get a Grammy nod on your first solo effort after being in one of the biggest bands in the world for 4 years and never receiving one? Ugh, the haters would just gag!
On that note, I want to comment on the numerous ways Zayn has positioned himself into a path of solo-greatness since his exit from One Direction. Here’s a list (in somewhat chronological order) the many ways Zayn has snatched us bald this past year.

Changed his Instagram handle to simple, @Zayn. – With the millions of fan accounts, how did he finagle that username? HOW?

His hair color ‘tasted the rainbow’ and then he cut it all off and he STILL slayed.

Honestly, the only way to top these, is for Zayn’s debut album to be released on March 25. 2016, the anniversary of his departure from 1D. Is that too petty because I think it would be glorious!
